Vacancy Programme Officer

The Queen Mathilde Cultural Fund is looking to fill the position of Programmes Officer in its Programmes Team.
Our mission is to support, connect and honour artists and cultural practitioners in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe, especially where cultural expression is under pressure. We believe in the transformative power of culture and its potential to drive societal change. We stimulate cultural expression and create opportunities for connection and exchange, and support societally engaged artists and cultural practitioners through a sequence of Awards given at crucial stages of creative careers. Our aim is to promote growth, experimentation and sustainability in creative practices across the globe.
THE PROGRAMMES TEAM
The Programmes Team consists of four people including the Programme Officer. Together the team implements the flow of the three Awards and ensures a smooth and transparent selection process. We do this from conceptualisation of programmes, through open call and nomination processes, assessments and coordination with juries and advisory committees, up to the final selection of recipients. We conduct scouting and outreach in the working regions of the Fund, and intensively communicate with our wider network. Our team implements and grows the Fund’s collaborations and prepares and develops content for our programmes. Additionally, we set up exchanges amongst our partners, investing in a global network of creatives, and facilitate meaningful connections between the Fund's international network and counterparts in the Belgium.
THE POSITION
As Programme Officer you will be working closely with all other members in the Programmes Team to implement our Awards cycles. You will do this by administering the different processes, joining us from conceptualisation of open calls to the selection of recipients, conducting scouting, research and outreach in the working regions of the Fund, and assisting in the organisation of meetings, workshops and jury sessions. As Programme Officer you will contribute to the effective implementation of the three Awards cycles, amongst others by:
- Administering open calls;
- Conducting in-depth research into applicants and nominations;
- Scouting for possible nominators, applicants and partners;
- Corresponding with applicants and awards recipients;
- Assisting in the organisation of in-person and online workshops and meetings;
- Contributing to the development of both existing and new programmes;
- Helping keep track of developments and research in the field of culture and development and societal developments that might influence the work of the Fund.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a pro-active and dedicated individual who has an affinity for- and a background in culture, arts and social justice issues, and has a thinking level equivalent to HBO+/WO. Due to the international nature of the work fluency in both spoken and written English is a must, knowledge of Belgian and other languages are an advantage. Our future colleague is precise, organised, creative, energetic, sociable, analytical and caring. They ideally have a few years relevant work experience, and:
- Have an eye for detail, and sensitivity to complex intercultural issues;
- Have strong administrative and organisational skills and can manage working in a dynamic environment, juggling a range of different tasks at any given time;
- Are informed about and engaged in global developments that influence the work of the Fund and have ideas about how to constructively address global issues through arts and culture.
This is a junior position where there is space for development and growth. If you don’t have the above experience but the position speaks to you and you believe you can contribute to our team, we still welcome you to apply. At the Fund, we are working to make our organisation as inclusive, diverse and accessible as possible and see this as crucial to the success of our work, especially given its intersectional nature.
WHAT WE OFFER
By joining the Programmes Team, you will gain extensive knowledge about and connection to the Fund’s global network of artists, thinkers, cultural organisations and collaborators. You will be working within a dynamic organisation and team, doing inspiring and meaningful work. Our office is in Amsterdam and employs around 25 people in total. Due to interns, volunteers and freelancers, this number varies, but the permanent team consists of 15 employees.
